Kroshik is a famous Ladoga ringed seal from Russia. He was rescued as a tiny baby in 2016 after being found alone near Lake Ladoga. He was severely underweight and weighed only around 4 kg, so rescuers from the Friends of the Baltic Seal Foundation took care of him and rehabilitated him. After a few months, they tried to release him back into the wild. But Kroshik came back to his rescuers just 15 minutes later. 😭 They tried again later, but he kept seeking out humans instead of living independently, so he eventually stayed under the foundation’s care. Now, almost 10 years later, Kroshik is still famous for being extremely attached to people. In August 2026, rescuers gave him another chance to explore Lake Ladoga. They fitted him with a GPS tracker and allowed him to swim freely from a floating home. And once again… Kroshik still doesn’t really want to leave. He usually stays within about 500 meters of the floating base, comes back for food and rest, and reportedly returns when his rescuers call his name.
